Ear problems need the right diagnosis before they need an operation.

Specialist assessment for persistent ear discharge, hearing loss, eardrum perforation, chronic ear disease, cholesteatoma, previous ear surgery and complex otologic conditions.

Symptoms & Conditions

Reasons to seek an otology assessment

These symptoms do not automatically mean surgery is required. The first step is establishing the cause and severity.

Persistent ear discharge

Recurrent or long-standing discharge may reflect chronic middle-ear disease and needs examination.

Hearing reduction

Hearing loss can arise from the ear canal, eardrum, middle ear, inner ear or a combination of causes.

Eardrum perforation

Management depends on symptoms, infection history, hearing status and examination findings.

Cholesteatoma

Cholesteatoma and selected chronic ear conditions can damage surrounding structures and often require specialist planning.

Repeated infections

Recurrent infections warrant assessment of disease activity, hearing and contributing factors.

Previous / complex ear surgery

Persistent disease, previous operations, difficult anatomy or unresolved hearing problems may benefit from an advanced opinion.

Clinical Pathway

Assessment before treatment.

1

Clinical examination

History and detailed ear examination establish the likely disease process.

2

Hearing assessment

Audiology is used when indicated to understand the type and degree of hearing loss.

3

Imaging when required

CT, MRI or other investigations are selected according to the clinical question rather than routinely for every patient.

4

Treatment decision

Observation, medical treatment, hearing rehabilitation, procedure or surgery is considered according to diagnosis.

5

Advanced treatment

When surgery is appropriate, goals, alternatives, expected recovery and limitations are discussed before proceeding.

6

Shared follow-up

Suitable follow-up can return to a participating local centre after advanced care at Hisar.

Possible Treatment Pathways

Not every ear condition follows the same route.

Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include medical management, infection control, hearing rehabilitation, repair of an eardrum perforation, middle-ear reconstruction, surgery for chronic ear disease or cholesteatoma, or other specialist otologic procedures. The exact procedure is decided only after clinical assessment.
